Magazine Project Research - TABLE OF CONTENTS

For my third magazine analysis, I will be studying and analyzing a magazine from Food Network, The Big Thanksgiving Issue edition. My first analysis completely covered the dissection of the cover page of the Food Network magazine, and my second analysis covered the pictures throughout the Fix-It and Forget-It magazine. So with this issue, I am going into intense detail about the table of contents layout in this magazine from Food Network, The Big Thanksgiving edition. The reason why I chose this publication to go in depth with the table of contents in is because this magazine has multiple components if the table of contents. Within the table of contents, includes a title page, the actual table of contents, a 'Recipe Index', a 'Too Your Health' section, and a 'Star Search'. The table of contents title pages includes a full-page graphic of a food that was cooked using one of the recipes within the magazine, with the name of the food and the page where you can find the information and recipe on the food. Also having the title 'Contents' across the top of the page with the date in a small font underneath the title. The next aspect of the magazine includes the actual table of contents. The actual contents page includes the title in the upper left hand corner in a smaller font, 5 graphics are evenly displayed on the page with page numbers on where to find the recipe and information about the plates. The contents include the 'In the Know', 'Thanksgiving' recipe page numbers, 'Weeknight Cooking' recipe page numbers, 'On the Road' recipe page numbers and a 'Contest' page number at the end of the page. The bottom left corner includes a box and within the box are credits for the photographs, food styling and prop styling. The next section is the 'Recipe Index', which includes a thumbnail image of every single finished recipe, the name of it, and the page where you can find it on. The recipes are color-coded according to the type of food that they are. Another section of table of contents is the 'Too Your Health', which includes every single recipe that is healthy for you, as well as some information about how and why it is good for you body, and how you can make an average meal at home that is healthier. The last section of the contents is called the 'Star Search' and it entails small thumbnail pictures of every Food Network Star that is featured in that special, what page, and what show, if any, that they were featured in. This magazine has taught me a lot about what aspects that the Table of Contents should include for an overall well done, neat, and educational table of contents.
