Magazine Project Research - COVER
This first magazine that I have decided to study and analyze is from Food Network Magazine and is called Happy Baking. The magazine project issue that I have decided on is for the month of December. I have chosen this month because it is a big holiday season with tons of festivities and homemade recipes. To begin, this magazine's cover layout is presented very well. It is neat, and gets right to the point. It has a ton of information including the three main issues of the holiday magazine presented at the top of the magazine cover. The font of the cover of the magazine varies, as the main title is in bubble, cursive letters. The color and size of the font is very important as well. Although the font of the words on the cover are very evenly spread, the important parts are bigger in font and are also more bold. The white color of the font with the outline of the word being green adds a little bit of a Christmasy vibe. The background of the magazine is red, also for Christmas. The added photographs of Christmas cookies really adds to the Christmas affect of the magazine and really shows that the magazine is going to have something to do with Christmas. The photographs of the three chefs really give the viewer an idea of who the chef is. One of the main reasons that I chose this specific magazine to talk about the cover with is because this magazine has a flap that opens on the cover. It includes more pictures of sweets for Christmas, recipes, and ingredients needed for preparing these sweets. I think that the added flap and other page of information about the cover really adds to the cover and makes it more interesting for the reader to read. Although it may be a little overwhelming for a cover page, it was a great idea and was well carried out. In conclusion, all of these components of the cover are extremely important when trying to successfully create an aesthetically pleasing and not confusing or scattered magazine cover.
